Julia Hanna Announces Intention for Candidacy in 2026 Oakville Mayoral Race

Dear friends and neighbours,

After many conversations with residents across our beautiful town and a great deal of reflection, I am proud to announce my intention to run for Mayor of Oakville in the next municipal election.

Oakville is built on diversity, resilience, and heart, a place where everyone deserves to feel seen and heard. It’s built on strong neighbourhoods, caring local businesses, dedicated volunteers, and residents who expect leadership that listens and acts with integrity. This is the community that welcomed me 43 years ago and gave me the opportunity to build a business, raise my family, and give back as a business leader, non-profit founder, and proud community member.

I’m running because I believe Oakville deserves steady, collaborative leadership focused on real results. I hear from families every day who are feeling the strain of affordability, the impacts of rapid growth, traffic and transit challenges. They are concerned about crime, safety, and protecting the neighbourhoods that make Oakville feel like home.

My commitment has always been to serve with transparency, respect, and fearless integrity. As Mayor, I will advocate for responsible development, strong financial management, and a town hall that works alongside residents, businesses, and community partners.

This campaign will be about listening, bringing people together, and ensuring Oakville is a place where families can thrive, seniors can age with dignity, and future generations can build their lives.

Oakville has given so much to my family and me. I am ready to serve and give back to the community we all cherish.

I look forward to sharing more in the weeks ahead — and most importantly, hearing from you.

Oakville was here for me. Now it's my turn to be #HereForOakville.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Julia Hanna Announces Intention for Candidacy in Oakville Mayoral Race

Oakville, Ontario — February 6th, 2026

Business leader, non-profit founder, and longtime community advocate Julia Hanna has announced her intention to run for mayor in the upcoming Oakville municipal election.

Hanna, who has lived in Oakville for more than 43 years, says her decision to run is rooted in her deep gratitude for the community that helped shape her life and her commitment to protecting Oakville’s future.

“Oakville is built on diversity, resilience, and heart — a place where everyone deserves to feel seen and heard,” said Hanna. “This is the community that gave me the opportunity to build a business, raise a family, and give back. Now, I want to serve Oakville in a new way.”

Hanna’s campaign will focus on addressing the key challenges facing Oakville, including responsible growth, housing affordability, traffic congestion, community safety, infrastructure sustainability, and the preservation of the town’s strong sense of community.

She emphasizes that strong municipal leadership requires collaboration, transparency, and practical problem-solving.

“Leadership means acknowledging the challenges Oakville faces and being fearless in finding solutions,” Hanna said. “It means working collaboratively with all levels of government, remaining non-partisan, and listening to residents because no single leader has all the answers.”

Hanna brings a diverse professional and personal background to her campaign. As a successful business owner, she has worked closely with residents, local entrepreneurs, and families, gaining firsthand insight into the community's needs and concerns. As a mother and founder of community-focused initiatives, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, inclusion, and local engagement.

Hanna says her campaign will prioritize making Oakville a place where families, seniors, young professionals, and essential workers can thrive while maintaining the character and quality of life residents value.

“The future feels uncertain, and many residents are feeling overwhelmed,” Hanna said. “Oakville is built on neighbours supporting one another. I want to help ensure our town is a community that stands with its residents, just as it stood with me.”

Additional campaign details, including policy priorities and community engagement opportunities, will be announced in the coming weeks.
